Doug Plavin
Musician - Educator- Therapeutic Mentor
For nearly 40 years, I have been a committed music teacher who meets the student where they are with the singular goal of helping them enhance their wellbeing through musical expression. In addition, my role as a therapeutic mentor and community health educator has allowed me the opportunity to work with neuro-divergent children and young adults to help them gain the social communication and emotional coping skills they need to thrive personally, socially, and academically. I practice within a strengths-based, neuro-diversity affirming model where students learn to identify their strengths, find their authentic voice, and develop new strategies and coping tools to enhance their musicality, social communication skills, and gain the confidence they need to thrive in their community.
I hold a B.A. in Community Health Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a Diploma of Instrumental Performance from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and have studied percussion with numerous world-class musicians from around the globe.
